The Wolf Man - Black Foot - 1892
There was a man who had two awful wives. The man thought that if he left with the two wives where no one could find them, that they would turn nice, so he did. Close to where they camped, there was a hill. At sunset the man would stand there and watch the sunset and made sure no one was coming. There was a buffalo skull there, which he sat on. The two wives disliked it there because they were lonely and decided to kill their husband, so they could leave. Next morning the man left to hunt so the two wives met at the top of his hill. They dug a pit and covered it with leaves and sticks, then placed the buffalo skull on top. The husband came home with his hunting and the wives quickly cooked for him. He ate, then went on the hill and sat down on the skull. The covering gave away and he fell in the pit. His wives were watching him, and when they saw him disappear, they took down the lodge, packed everything on the dog travois, and moved off, going toward the main camp. When they were close enough for people to hear them they faked crying. The people would ask questions of where he is and the wives would reply that he's dead. They kept fake crying but, the man did not die he was only hurt. When he man tried to get out he couldn't. A wolf, cam along and took pity on him. He howled, and other wolves came. Coyotes, badgers, and kit-foxes also came. The animals made him part of their family and dug him out of the pit. They all pulled him out and spoke to him. The animals took care of him and took him to their home. There was an old blind wolf, who had medicine. The wolf cured him and turned his hands and feet into paws but, not his body. The next night the man-wolf took the villagers meat and brought it to the wolves. Soon the villagers stopped leaving the meat out and the wolves became furious, and on the night the two wives and the man wolves saw each other. The next morn no one could find what happened to the wives.
